Meet Our Parent Dogs — Health Tested, Home Raised, and Loved for Life

At Bernedoodles and Co, every puppy starts with the parents. Before any dog enters our breeding programme, they are evaluated for health, temperament, and genetic soundness. We believe the quality of our puppies is a direct reflection of the care we give the dogs who produce them — and that care does not stop when a litter is born.

OUR GUARDIAN FAMILY NETWORK

Behind every Bernedoodles and Co puppy is a network of 17 Guardian Families located in Roseville and Sacramento, California. These are not strangers — they are our clients, our friends, and our extended family. Each Guardian Family raises one of our parent dogs as their own full-time pet, in their own home, as a true family member.

When a litter is planned, the dog comes back to us in Roseville for whelping and the critical early weeks of puppy development. Once the litter is weaned and settled, she returns home to her Guardian Family. This means our parent dogs are never confined to a kennel, never isolated, and never treated as production animals. They are loved dogs who happen to help us bring exceptional puppies into the world.

“Raising Lacey has been one of the best experiences our family has had. She is completely part of our home – she sleeps on the bed, comes on walks with the kids, and is spoiled beyond belief. When she goes to Tanya’s for a litter it is hard to let her go, even for a few weeks. We couldn’t imagine life without her.”

OUR STUDS

Our male dogs bring a diverse range of genetics, coat types, and colours to our programme. Each one has been selected for health, temperament, and the specific qualities he passes to his offspring.

Rocco — Merle Mini Poodle. Yes, merle Poodles exist and Rocco is 100% purebred. He brings stunning merle patterning and excellent Poodle intelligence to our Mini Bernedoodle litters.

Maverick — Standard Merle Bernedoodle. One of our larger studs, Maverick produces beautifully marked merle Standard Bernedoodle puppies with calm, confident temperaments.

Teddy — Tri Colour Mini Bernedoodle. Teddy is a classic tri colour who consistently produces the traditional Bernedoodle look — black, white, and rust — in a compact Mini size.

Baron — Tri Colour Mini Bernedoodle. Baron pairs with our Mini Bernedoodle females to produce rich, consistent tri colour coats with excellent furnishings.

Ocean — Merle Micro Bernedoodle. Ocean is one of our most unique studs — a merle Micro Bernedoodle who produces our smallest, most striking puppies.

Twix — Mini Poodle. Twix contributes low-shedding Poodle coat genetics and a playful, trainable temperament across multiple litter types.

Pluto — Mini Poodle. Pluto is a gentle, well-structured Mini Poodle whose offspring consistently inherit his easy-going nature.

Leo — Toy Poodle. Leo is our smallest Poodle stud and the key to producing our tiniest Micro Bernedoodles and petite Munchkin crosses.

Bentley, Falcon, Cosmo, and Bruno — Mini Bernedoodles. These four studs round out our Mini Bernedoodle programme, each bringing their own coat colour, structure, and temperament strengths to our litters.

Jack — Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Jack is our dedicated stud for our Cavapoo and Munchkin Bernedoodle litters. He is a gentle, affectionate Cavalier with an exceptional temperament that passes reliably to his puppies.

OUR FEMALES

Our girls are the heart of our programme. Sophie, Roxy, Nika, Lily, Peach, Luna, Masha, Hope, Muse, Polly, Nala, Lacey, Fiona, and Diva represent a carefully built group of Bernese Mountain Dogs, Poodles, Bernedoodles, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Each one lives with a Guardian Family or in our Roseville home, and each one is health tested, loved, and treated as a cherished companion first and a breeding dog second.

GENETIC HEALTH TESTING — WHAT WE SCREEN FOR

All of our parent dogs are tested and confirmed clear for the genetic disorders most commonly associated with Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. Testing is performed through accredited laboratories and results are on file. The conditions we screen for include:

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
  • Von Willebrand Disease Types I, II, and III (vWD)
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)
  • Hereditary Cataracts (HC)
  • Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC)
  • Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEWS)

Breeding only from genetically clear parents significantly reduces the risk of your puppy inheriting hereditary conditions — and is a core reason our puppies come with a 1-year written genetic health guarantee.

ROUTINE VETERINARY CARE

Every parent dog in our programme receives a full veterinary check-up at our veterinarian clinic once a year. All parents are kept current on vaccinations and are dewormed on a regular schedule. We do not breed from any dog that is not in excellent health at the time of breeding.

RETIREMENT — FOUR LITTERS AND A FOREVER HOME

Our females are bred for a maximum of four litters over their lifetime. After their final litter, each female is spayed and officially retired from our breeding programme. In most cases, our retired moms stay exactly where they already are — with the Guardian Family who has loved them for years. They live out the rest of their lives as cherished family pets.

We believe this is how it should be. The dogs who make our programme possible deserve the same quality of life we promise for every puppy we place.

FROM PARENT TO PUPPY — THE SAME STANDARD OF CARE

The commitment we give our parent dogs carries directly through to every litter they produce. From day three of life, every Bernedoodles and Co puppy receives Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and structured socialisation from Dasha, our on-staff Puppy Trainer.
